ROUGHNECKS SIGN TWO, LOSE VETERAN
Calgary, AB - Keith Nyberg, an Australian, who won All American honours while playing for Limestone College in South Carolina, is among two players signed today by the Calgary Roughnecks.

The other is Kyle Morwick, the Riggers 6th round pick in the recent National Lacrosse League draft (80th overall).

On the negative side, hard-nosed transition player Jesse Phillips is leaving the squad.

Phillips, 32, joined the club in 2002 and was a member of the team that captured the Champion’s Cup in 2004.

“When the season was cancelled,” explained Kurt Silcott, the Roughnecks General Manager, “Jesse made some work commitments that will not allow him to come out this season.

“It’s really unfortunate, but Jesse will contact us if his circumstances change and together we’ll make a decision on his future at that time.”

Phillips is the Roughnecks all-time leader in penalty minutes (210) and loose ball collection (464).

“Keith Nyberg is a player that impressed us with his defensive ability at the indoor lacrosse world championship in Halifax earlier this year,” said Riggers’ General Manager Kurt Silcott.

“He was available to come to Calgary to try out and we welcome the opportunity to see what he can do when surrounded by a complete defensive core like we have here.”

Silcott added, “He is a very hard worker and hopefully his work ethic will rub off on the rest of the players trying out for the team.”

Nyberg has represented Australia in both field and box lacrosse. He won bronze at the world field championship in 2006.

“We were really surprised that Kyle (Morwick) was still on the board as late as he was in this year’s draft, “said Silcott. “He’s a right handed player that does a lot of things well. He therefore gives you options.

“With our athletic style of pressure defence, Kyle should be a good fit”
