TERRY SANDERSON RESIGNS AS ASSISTANT COACH
CALGARY, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks announced today that Assistant Coach Terry Sanderson has resigned from his role with the team.

Sanderson, who has been with the Calgary Roughnecks since the summer of 2007, was hired on as the club's Assistant Coach/Defensive Coordinator.

“It's unfortunate that both coaches have decided to leave our organization after such an exhilarating season,” said Roughnecks' President and General Manager Brad Banister.

According to Banister, it's challenging for teams in Western Canada to keep coaches from Eastern Canada, especially since Toronto has a team and offer the convenience of staying close to home, eliminating a lot of the travel time.

“It's hard for coaches as well as teams to compete with cities that are logistically closer to where the coach's homes are situated,” added Banister.

“It comes down to those teams being able to pay less in travel costs to fly in their coaches and in turn pay them a higher salary to make up the difference.”

Sanderson, a Orangeville, Ontario native, helped lead the Calgary Roughnecks to the 2009 NLL Champion's Cup in just his second season with the Riggers. He spent the 2009 season behind the bench with Head Coach Troy Cordingley, who recently resigned from the Roughnecks, and Assistant Coach Dave Pym.

Prior to his time with Calgary, Sanderson was assistant coach of the Philadelphia Wings.
Sanderson began his coaching career in 1999 as Albany Attack's head coach. He also spent time behind the bench in Montreal and Ottawa before winning the Champion's Cup with the Toronto Rock in 2005.

The Calgary Roughnecks finished the 2009 season with a franchise 12-4 regular season record and top seed throughout the playoffs.

“Losing Terry is unfortunate, but we understand that he wants to be closer to his family,” said Banister “The Calgary Roughnecks wish him the best of luck.”
