CALGARY, AB - Calgary Roughnecks President and General Manager Brad Banister announced today that Captain Tracey Kelusky and fellow teammate Josh Sanderson have been named the Roughnecks franchise players for the 2010 NLL season.
As franchise players, neither Kelusky nor Sanderson will be eligible for free agency, guaranteeing their stay in Calgary through the 2010 season. Each player will also receive the league's veteran maximum salary, plus an additional 25 per cent for being declared the team's franchise players.
Each team in the league was able to qualify up to two players for the franchise player tag.
Kelusky, a native of Peterborough, ON, tallied 84 points, including 31 goals and 53 assists in 16 regular season games last season. In that time, he collected 84 loose balls, notched eight goals on the power play and four short-handed goals. In three playoff games, Kelusky registered nine goals and five assists.
The 33-year-old captain was originally acquired first overall in the Montreal Dispersal Draft when the Montreal Express franchise folded in 2002. In seven seasons with the Calgary club, Kelusky has tallied 294 goals, 326 assists for 620 points in 130 regular season games.
Sanderson, a 32-year-old from Orangeville, ON, led the Roughnecks in points in both the regular season and during the playoffs. The forward also sat third in the league in points in the regular season, a mere eight points behind league leader Colin Doyle of the Stealth.
In 16 regular season games, Sanderson recorded 103 points, including 29 goals and 74 assists. In that time, he also collected 73 loose balls and tallied 11 power play goals, 31 power play assists, one short-handed goal and one game winner.
During the 2009 playoffs, the five-foot-seven, 160-pound forward notched five goals, 14 assists for 19 points. Sanderson tallied one game winner during the post-season.
Sanderson, who enters his third season with the Roughnecks' club, was originally acquired in a blockbuster trade with Toronto in March of 2008, in exchange for Lewis Ratcliff.
