Each week, Roughnecks' captain Tracey Kelusky will touch on what's going on with the team, his life and just about anything he wants to talk about!
ENTRY EIGHT- MAY 1, 2009
Hey LAX fans….
The playoffs are here. It was a great regular season, finishing first overall for the first time in Roughnecks history. Now it's time to build on that, and surge into the post season.
We play the Colorado Mammoth at home on Sunday afternoon. The Mammoth-Roughneck rivalry, in my mind, is one of the biggest in the NLL. We, as every team in the post season, will have to play our best and elevate our game in hopes to continue.
Leading up to the game there has been lots going on in and around Cowtown. The boys and I have been bouncing around the city promoting the game in hopes of getting some disappointed Flames fans on the Riggers bandwagon. On Thursday morning we woke up 5:30 so we could go on City TV and promote the game. We spent about four hours, most in limbo, at a local lacrosse facility promoting the upcoming game. During the airing, we had about 50 National Sport Academy students working out and playing lax as well. The NSA athletes worked out hard and had a few laughs with the local players on the team.
For the playoffs, most of the guys keep the same type of pre-game routine. Have a good meal the night before, get a good night's rest and have a crisp throw-around before the game. Sometimes it's a little tougher to fall asleep the night before because you are so pumped to play. I know I'll be fighting the pillow a bit on Saturday night but that's par for the course. It's the playoffs and there's plenty on the line. Regular season standings, team accomplishments mean absolutely nothing. It's time to put up or shut up!
Getting home floor advantage is great because the fans at our games are dynamite. It really makes a difference when the ‘Dome is rockin'. We can feed off that energy and with a big crowd expected on Sunday the building should be electric.
On Saturday we are practicing in Okotoks at Centennial Arena at 1 p.m. Following our practice we will stick around to sign autographs and meet fans and then watch teammate Bruce Codd coach the Junior A Raiders. It's Bruce's Alberta coaching debut and I'm sure he'll have the boys fired up to play.
Hope to see you Sunday at the ‘Dome.
Until next time…
