JOINING THE CLUB
Dane Dobbie, the first man to reach 300 goals as a Roughneck, discusses Dickson joining the club

Superman is now Mr. 300.

Curtis Dickson has joined an elite group after Saturday nights contest against the Rochester Knighthawks, reaching 300 goals for his career after a hat-trick performance en route to an 11-9 victory.

Dickson becomes the second Roughnecks player in franchise history to reach the milestone, after teammate Dane Dobbie was the first to reach the mark earlier on in the season.

The excitement and pride that Dobbie has in being joined in the exclusive club by his teammate of seven years is through the roof, as Dobbie has seen first-hand the high-calibre player Dickson has become.

“I’ve had the privilege to play with Curtis his whole career in this league. I’ve seen all 300 goals,” Dobbie said.

“He’s our backbone and franchise guy.”

What makes the accomplishment more impressive is the fact that Dickson was able to do so in just 117 games, an average of 2.57 goals-per-game since breaking into the league in 2011.

Coming off of his best statistical season in 2016, (61 goals, 107 points) Dickson has continued to be in the top three in points in the NLL this season, and has led the Roughnecks offence on a consistent basis.

With Dickson currently sitting third in points in the league with 86, and first in goals with 42, he has made his case to be named MVP, as he’s only three points back of current leader Corey Smalls.

Since his rookie year, the numbers continue to rise in not just in the goal department, but also in the assist’s column.

“In the past five years he’s really taken over. He’s our best goal scorer,” Dobbie said.

“He can also find guys on the floor just as well as he can put the ball in the net.”

With 44 assists so far, Dickson is two assists away from matching his career high of 46 from a year ago, poised to reach and surpass that number.

This has led to the Roughnecks offence looking like a dangerous threat when they step on the floor as his scoring and playmaking has been a major key to the teams success.

“He’s a clutch player and we feed off of him. When he’s going that usually gets me going,” Dobbie said.

“He’s just that type of player.”

With his play this season, Dobbie believes that Dickson should be in the discussion and ultimately win the prestigious award for the first time in his career.

“He’s an incredible player and athlete deserving of the MVP.”
