The Roughnecks dropped a 14-10 controlled scrimmage against the Edmonton Rush in Airdrie on Sunday.
Airdrie, AB - The Edmonton Rush held the Calgary Roughnecks to a 14-10 decision in a controlled scrimmage Sunday afternoon at Genesis Place in Airdrie, Alberta.
The Roughnecks jumped to an early 1-0 lead on a goal by 2011 draft selection Darren Kinnear. The provincial rivals answered back with five straight goals before Joe Resetarits, Calgary’s 2012 first round pick, added a tally to make it 5-2 at the half. Resetarits would finish the scrimmage with four points (three goals, one assist), while Jeff Shattler netted one goal and set up another. Andrew Murphy, Curtis Dickson, Daryl Veltman and Jackson Decker, with a pair of markers, also scored in the loss.
Goaltender Frank Scigliano played the first quarter, recording 15 saves for Calgary. Matt Flindell turned aside eight shots in the second, while Mike Poulin finished the contest with 23 saves over the third and fourth quarters.
Calgary did not dress Dane Dobbie, Shawn Evans, Andrew McBride, Curtis Manning, Geoff Snider and Kaleb Toth.
The initial 37-player training camp roster will be trimmed to 23 on Thursday, December 20 at 10 a.m. for the active roster deadline.
The Roughnecks continue with on-floor sessions at Genesis Place (800 East Lake Blvd. NE) on Friday, December 21 starting at 8 p.m., followed by two practices on Saturday, December 22 beginning at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
