Something has got to give on Saturday night.

The Calgary Roughnecks are facing a world-class goaltender in Matt Vinc, who has allowed 11 or less goals in every game dating back to Week 2.

The Roughnecks, on the other hand, have scored 12 or more goals in 12 of 14 games this year.

It’s the battle between the NLL’s top-ranked offence versus the stingiest defence.

There is no real book (on Vinc), you just have to shoot well and be a little deceptive. He’s a great goalie,” said transition player Travis Cornwall.

He’s scored twice against Vinc in his career – both shortside on the massive goalie.

I’m sure Shawn (Evans) and (Curtis) Dickson will figure something out,” Cornwall added.

Vinc is the only goalie in the league with a goals against average under 10 this season (9.75) and a save percentage over .800 (.813)

When he’s on, he’s one of the hardest goalies to score on,” opined rookie Joe Resetarits, who knows Vinc well having played both with and against him in summer lacrosse.

The way to combat against a goalie like Vinc, Resetarits says, is to get the offense working.

When everyone on our offence is gelling, moving the ball, everyone’s moving – defences have a hard time stopping us,” Resetarits said. “We’ve proved that most games this year. When we are on, teams can’t stop us.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH
1. Cody Jamieson – The former first overall draft choice in 2010 leads the Knighthawks in all major offensive categories – goals (23), assists (45) and points (68). The reigning NLL Champion’s Cup MVP scored three goals and seven assists in two games last year against the Roughnecks.

2. Dan Dawson – The Dangerous one was a late training camp addition to the Knighthawks, coming over in a blockbuster trade involving his brother Paul and Paul Rabil. He’s scored at least three points from the right side in each of his last five games.

3. Johnny Powless – The player Rochester acquired in the deal that sent Shawn Evans to Calgary has shifty speed on the offensive side. In 13 games this season, he’s scored 30 points.
