Team captain and top drawman both coming back for the 2014 season.
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks today announced that the National Lacrosse League club has re-signed captain Andrew McBride to a one-year contract and transition player Geoff Snider to a three-year deal, pending league approval.
McBride, who is entering his 12th NLL season, has spent his entire NLL playing career with the Roughnecks. The Ladner, British Columbia product has appeared in a franchise-leading 167 games over the past 11 seasons, recording 84 points (19 goals, 65 assists) and 317 penalty minutes while collecting 562 loose balls over that span. The 30-year-old defenceman was selected by Calgary in the second round, 14th overall, in the 2002 NLL Entry Draft. McBride was a member of both the 2004 and 2009 NLL championship squads and has posted 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) and collected 63 loose balls in 18 career playoff games. He was recently named head coach and assistant general manager of the RMLL’s Okotoks Raiders for the 2014 junior A box lacrosse season.
Snider, a native of Calgary, Alberta, finished the 2013 regular season with a league-leading 310 face-off wins, 235 loose balls and 69 penalty minutes over 15 games played. The 32-year-old transition player has appeared in 43 games over the past three seasons with Calgary, recording 68 points (37 goals, 31 assists), 821 face-off wins (first among all franchise players) and 198 penalty minutes along with collecting 638 loose balls over that span. Snider spent four seasons with the Philadelphia Wings before being acquired by Calgary in August 2010.
The Roughnecks will open the first weekend of training camp today, Friday, Nov. 29, with team meetings and medicals at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The camp roster will then hit the turf today at 4:00 p.m. at Calgary Soccer Centre (7000 - 48 Street SE). Two on-field sessions will follow on Saturday, Nov. 30, starting at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Calgary Soccer Centre. Filming of the on-field sessions is permitted for the first 15 minutes of each two-hour practice. Training camp will continue in Langley, British Columbia, on December 6-7 and will conclude in Oakville, Ontario, over the weekend of December 13-15.
