The Roughnecks have signed Jeff Shattler, the National Lacrosse League's 2011 Most Valuable Player, to a two-year contract.
The Calgary Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board announced today the club has signed Jeff Shattler, the National Lacrosse League's 2011 Most Valuable Player, to a two-year contract.
Shattler is the first Roughnecks player to receive MVP honours since the club joined the NLL in 2001.
The 26-year-old Alberta native's 2011 season accomplishment also marked the first time a West Division team, following the introduction of East and West Divisions in 2004, had a player named the league's MVP.
The 6'0”, 185 lbs., left-handed forward joined the Calgary squad in 2007. In five seasons with the Roughnecks, Shattler has scored 91 goals, recorded 143 assists and scooped up 234 loose balls.
“Jeff is a versatile and talented player,” said Board. “Coming off a MVP season, he is an important part of our team and will be a key contributor to our future success.”
“Calgary is home and there is no other place I'd rather play,” commented Shattler. “I'm excited to see all the boys at training camp and look forward to a great season.”
